Your fire risk assessment came back with significant findings
An assessment has come back with significant findings and the owner does not know where to start.

Short answer
A fire risk assessment is not a pass/fail test. It produces prioritised findings, and what matters legally is that you act on them in a sensible order and can evidence progress — not that everything is resolved on day one.

Triage the findings properly
Deal with anything that would prevent people escaping first: blocked or locked escape routes, missing or non-functional detection, doors that will not hold smoke back, and inadequate emergency lighting on the escape route. Housekeeping, signage refresh and record-keeping matter, but they come after the items that affect survivability.
Write a plan you can actually show someone
A defensible action plan has four columns and nothing more complicated:
- The finding, quoted from the report.
- The action decided, including any interim measure.
- The person responsible by name or role.
- The target date, and the date completed.
Interim measures buy legitimate time
Where a remedy takes weeks — new doors, alarm upgrades, structural compartmentation — recorded interim measures are how you stay reasonable in the meantime: increased checks, temporary detection, a revised evacuation strategy, or restricting use of an affected area. Undocumented delay is what causes problems, not the delay itself.
Close it out
Once works are complete, a short re-inspection and an updated assessment record turn a list of promises into evidence. We can carry out the remedial work, or simply verify work done by others — both are valid, and we will say which we are doing.
Questions we get asked about this
Can I be prosecuted for findings in my own assessment?
Commissioning an assessment is the correct step. Risk arises from identifying significant findings and then failing to act on them or to record why an action was deferred.
How long do I have to complete the actions?
There is no universal timescale. The expectation is that timescales are proportionate to the risk — immediate life-safety issues in days, longer programmes for capital work, all recorded.
Can you carry out the remedial work you identify?
Yes, and you are free to use anyone else. We quote remedials separately and transparently so the assessment is never a sales document.
Send us the report — we will give you a prioritised plan and a fixed price for the parts you want us to handle.
